No issue here. Did you modify the default configuration file or not?
Comment by Bjoern Franke (bjo) - Sunday, 15 September 2019, 17:28 GMT
Changes:
- listen to 127.0.0.1@5353
- enabled DNSSEC
- use own upstream servers

But appdata_dir: "/var/cache/stubby" stayed the same.

Could you paste the file somewhere, eventually redacting specifics about upstream servers?

I've attached the file (sprunge.us is unfortunately over quota at the moment).

Strange, it also fails with the packaged stubby.yml here.

No issue on my side with this config after swapping the upstream servers. Maybe there is a typo in your actual configuration in this section? Have you tried with some default settings?
Comment by Bjoern Franke (bjo) - Sunday, 15 September 2019, 17:57 GMT
I think if it would contain a typo, stubby -C /etc/stubby/stubby.yml shouldn't work either? But I removed /etc/stubby, reinstalled stubby and tried to start it with the unmodified config file - same issue :/

You’re right, a typo would fail both.

I’ve tried the default file on my system too, and it worked OOTB. Any particular configuration in your systemd install? No `/etc/systemd/system/stubby{.service,.d}`?
Comment by Bjoern Franke (bjo) - Sunday, 15 September 2019, 18:08 GMT
No. But I copied the config to another system and there it works. So it seems to be something special with that box, but no clue yet. So sorry for the noise.

OK, np. I’m closing this then.
