Description:
I'm running cinnamon with dark themes. After upgrading webkit2gtk 2.24.4-1 to 2.26.0-1 I can no longer see HTML formatted messages preview in Evolution. When I select content from preview window I can see the content. I have tried various cinnamon dark themes and the problem seems to exist with each one of them, also tried generating dark themes with oomox. It works normal with light themes or text based messages, but not HTML formatted ones.
Downgrading webkit2gtk back to 2.24.4-1 resolves the issue.

Steps to reproduce: Upgrade wekit2gtk to 2.26.0-1 and use dark themes in Cinnamon (probably any gtk based DE with dark theme). Open up evolution and try to read HTML formatted messages in preview window.

I can confirm that this happens with me on Gnome (gnome-shell 1:3.32.2+11+g1c6abf378-1) as well (evolution (3.32.4-1). I'm using the Adwaita-dark theme (included with gnome-theme-extras) but also happens with other dark themes I've tried as well. Downgrading webkit2gtk from 2.26.0-1 to 2.24.4-1 resolves it.

Can also confirm outside of a Gnome environment (dwm) using both Midori (9.0-1) and surf (from upstream, but confirmed with Arch package 2.0-2). Bug is affecting websites that don't specify text color, usually those with black text on white (here's one: http://www.gigamonkeys.com/book/ ).

There are changes in WebKitGTK 2.26 about black themes. So you need to report this upstream.

https://webkitgtk.org/2019/09/09/webkitgtk2.26.0-released.html

Improve rendering of form controls when GTK theme is dark.

I've made a bug report at webkitgtk.org using reports provided by me and others.
