I have finally got 0.8 to recognise my compaq proliant smart 2 raid setup , but when i booted off the cd and ran /arch/setup i found that my ide cdrom was not detected for some reason.

I loaded all the ussual module ide-core ide-cdrom etc

I tried the ide legacy option and the scsi option

Please some help as my debian has finally corrupted so i really need Arch on my server.

Dmesg showed that the ide subsystem never found the cdrom drive yet versions 0.6 and 0.7.2 find it ok i just cant make the installer work with them for my cpqarray
It found my floppy drive ok though.
Strange as 0.7.2 & 0.6 find everything no probhlem..

What IDE/SCSI controler is your CD drive connected to?

not sure but i got this info from it.. lspci

Host bridge : Broadcom CNB20-LE Host Bridge (rev 03)
EISA bridge : Compaq Computer Corp PCI to EISA bridge
Host bridge : Broadcom CNB20-LE Host Bridge (rev 03)

It is ide as the ide-cdrom driver gets used version 4.61 and the model of the cdrom is CDU571-Q

I used Systemrescue cd 0.3.2 to get the above info although lsmod never showed id modules used etc ....

Anymore tips you can give , as i wish to help get this sorted for the 0.8 release.

I will test this out a.s.a.p. and let you know Tobias thanks....

Also can you add this to the setup script so Arch will detect Smart 2 arrays that still use the cpqarray module..
Arch still sets up this module and /dev/ida file just the installer doesn't know about it.
Heres the code snippet to add to the find disks section below the cciss section ..

# Smart 2 controllers
if [ -d /dev/ida ] ; then
cd /dev/ida
for dev in $(ls | egrep -v 'p'); do
echo "/dev/ida/$dev"
[ "$1" ] && echo $1
done
fi
cd - >/dev/null
Also this is required for the findpartitions section too...

# inlcude Smart 2 controllers
if [ -d /dev/ida ] ; then
cd /dev/ida
for dev in $(ls | egrep 'p'); do
echo "/dev/ida/$dev"
[ "$1" ] && echo $1
done
fi

The above additions work great ....
0.8 will be able to be installed on the humble compaq proliants that are being recycled and used as home servers with no effort at all.
