Description:

I am running Arch Linux x86_64 with lightdm/XFCE4 as graphical interface on my Dell Precision 490 desktop with dual-monitor setup. NVIDIA graphics card (NVIDIA Corporation G94GL [Quadro FX 1800]) with nouveau driver.

For all kernels below 5.0 the usual boot process is that boot messages are displayed on both monitors. Towards the end of the boot process, the nouveau driver gets loaded. Both screens blank briefly and then return to display the boot messages, until the lightdm boot screen appears on both monitors. Everything will be displayed on both monitors for the whole boot process. After login I get XFCE4 desktop on both monitors.

Since kernels 5.x my primary monitor is blank during boot. All boot messages are being displayed only on the 2nd screen. Also the lightdm login screen is only displayed on the 2nd screen, but enlarged by factor 4 (double width and height). I see the upper left quadrant of the enlarged display. I can type my password blindly. Login succeeds and the desktop gets loaded, this time correctly for both monitors with correct resolutions.

This happens for all kernels >= 5.0, both the stock kernels by Arch and my one kernels. All kernels < 5.0 work as expected.
