Description:
since commit d179b88deb3bf6fed4991a31fd6f0f2cad21fab5 upstream x11 does not start on various hardware, see e.g. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=244624&p=2.

In https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109806 it is claimed that this is not a kernel issue, it is reported here https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/issues/542 as a xserver issue, but nobody seems to give a shit about fixing.

Fedora reverts d179b88deb3bf6fed4991a31fd6f0f2cad21fab5 in their kernel (https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/kernel/blob/f29/f/0001-Revert-drm-i915-fbdev-Actually-configure-untiled-dis.patch), I suggest to do the same in arch linux.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.
* link to upstream bug report, if any

If you build xorg-server with the commits from https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/merge_requests/36 does that provide any improvement?

Thanks, this commits make it indeed work with current arch 5.0.7-1 kernel. Attached patched packages for those who are also are affected and want to confirm.

@newton can you confirm this is fixed in 5.0.8.arch1-1 and newer?
Comment by Michael Leun (newton) - Wednesday, 01 May 2019, 21:48 GMT
I can NOT confirm this is fixed in 5.0.8 or newer due to the simple reason that the revert in linus tree did NOT YET make it into stable. 5.0.10 still does NOT have d179b88deb3bf6fed4991a31fd6f0f2cad21fab5 reverted.

EDIT: See https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/stable-queue.git/tree/queue-5.0/revert-drm-i915-fbdev-actually-configure-untiled-displays.patch
It is in the stable-queue (and in the review for 5.0.11).

Nope - did verify with 5.0.10-arch1-1-ARCH and unpatched xserver packages - still has the issue.

Fixed in 5.0.11-arch1-1-ARCH
