Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  Slightly unintuitive wallpaper folder selection. Also, loss of wallpaper settings right after upgrading to 4.13 is possible.

Is accountsservice installed on your system?
xfdesktop 4.13.3 stores wallpaper setting in accountsservice now. I don't see it listed as direct dependency.

I don't have accountsservice installed but the background selection doesn't reset for me. Xfdesktop 4.13 should work the same; it just also notifies AccountsService of the new background.

@Jamp: Try going to "Settings -> Settings Editor", right-click on the "xfce4-desktop" channel and select "Reset". Then set a new background and see if it persists or not.

Thank you for your help but both hints do not fix the problem. I installed accountsservice and did reset the xfce4-desktop channel but the system does not allow me even to select the wallpaper I want. All jpegs and gifs appear grayed out. No way to select one of them.

Edit..

If reset the xfce4-desktop channel and then I change manually the last-image of the workspace 0 to the path of my wallpaper, then my wallpaper is displayed AND I am able to choose others from the same path (they are displayed directly as thumbnails) but it remains impossible to choose other files from other paths.

Files will appear grayed out because you are selecting a folder. After navigating to the folder containing the wallpaper you want, click the "Open" button in the bottom right corner of the dialog. It should then show all wallpapers in that directory and allow you to select the one you want.

The way you suggest works, and I feel a bit dumb.. :-(.. However IMHO it's not a friendly behavior . I would expect to click on a file and then Open, not to click open while viewing a list of grayed out files and folders. Anyway It works this way... Thank you and sorry.

I'll agree that it could be more intuitive. On the bright side, we don't have a bug where the background gets reset upon restart, as I originally thought when reading the report. Losing the wallpaper settings once after upgrading to 4.13 is possible, due to some change in how that setting is managed per monitor or something (sorry, don't know the exact details).

Assuming the wallpaper you've selected sticks, I'm closing this ticket.
