The keys for building are just keys that you know about, why should this specific application go out of its way to separate the directory?

Also: using a separate directory by default would be greatly annoying to the people who prefer to stick with defaults, and adding an option would be needlessly bloated for practically no reasonable use case.

Why not just run makepkg using `GNUPGHOME=~/.gnupg-makepkg makepkg`? You could alias this and have makepkg do what you want today using the existing options in gnupg.

You could even export the variable inside makepkg.conf as the conf file is a bash script that sets variables.

alias makepkg='GNUPGHOME=/some/other/dir makepkg'
