Also move it from the gnome category to the X11 category. ubuntulooks is not gnome-specific, it isn't even gnome. The fact that it includes some metacity themes doesn't make it gnome specific.

To me, gtk-engines-ubuntu seems more welcome.

The package is still named "ubuntulooks". Is this intentional, or did this bug get lost?
Comment by James Rayner (iphitus) - Thursday, 05 June 2008, 05:07 GMT
bugs don't get lost, it's just I haven't done it yet. It's just a rename, so it's pretty low priority.

I don't see why it should be renamed, the software is called "ubuntulooks". And the PKGBUILD should be updated to use $pkgname...

Upstream is ubuntu in this case:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/source/intrepid/ubuntulooks

The source is ubuntulooks, the resulting binary is gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks. On our distribution that would translate to gtk-engine(s)-ubuntulooks. At this moment we have some other packages following this naming scheme:
gtk-aurora-engine (community, follows wrong order of names)
gtk-engine-murrine (community, follows this scheme with engine instead of engines)

Renaming this package is a simple action with SVN, we can even keep history.

So why not do it?
Comment by Glenn Matthys (RedShift) - Tuesday, 07 October 2008, 18:32 GMT
Because it's called ubuntulooks in upstream? :-). I prefer distros stick with the same name as upstream uses, instead of creating a distro's own deviation.

So should we close this bug report then?
Comment by Greg (dolby) - Monday, 02 February 2009, 03:11 GMT
Personally id prefer kicking it out of extra. I dont know if iphitus still uses it but its Orphan for x86_64, it has no URL, no license,
and theres many more alternatives today than in 2006. According to pkgstats it has 3% usage.
