Details

Description:
When you want install Guest Additions but you don't have downloaded it, the download process always fail with message:
- The network operation failed with the following error: During network request: Unknown reason.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start any guest system
2. Go to Devices -> Insert Guest Additions CD Image...
3. A dialog that says "Could not find the VirtualBox Guest Additions disk image file. Do you wish to download this disk image file from the Internet?" appears. Press Download
4. Press again Download in next question
5. The system starts to download Guest Additions ISO and finally fails with the error.

Looks like you did not install package virtualbox-guest-iso.

@eworm not is necessary. If you don't have Guest Additions iso the app downloads it. In version 5 this works perfect but not in 6.

I'm having the same issue, it manages to download until approx 77% and then produces the error. It seems however to have been fixed after removing the CD-drive (in the VM manager/settings/devices) and adding a new empty one. It then selected a guest addition drive.

It hits 100% for me but doesn't save. My guess is that the location it's trying to save to is not writable by the virtualbox group.

A workaround to the failing download:

After installing community/virtualbox-guest-iso and restarting Virtualbox, the next time I do "2. Go to Devices -> Insert Guest Additions CD Image" the disc image is found and the download doesn't have to start (so it won't fail). The guest OS correctly detected the inserted virtual disc.
