the recent update in Numpy to 1.16 leads to a problem with PyTables https://github.com/PyTables/PyTables/issues/717 As of now, the only possibility to fix this issue is to downgrade numpy back to 1.15/ https://stackoverflow.com/questions/54210073/pd-read-df-throws-cannot-set-writable-flag-to-true-of-this-array/54294640#54294640 Maybe it should be announced somewhere, as it breaks a lot of existing code. pytables needs 2 commits from master to fix compatibility with numpy 1.16. I suggest to patch pytables instead.
