Details

wesnoth bakes the last git revision into the version number. In the case of Archlinux, it uses the Git revision number of the PKGBUILD.

For such cases, this option exists:
-DENABLE_DISPLAY_REVISION=OFF

(scons equivalent is autorevision=False, from 1.14.6 on)

Is this necessarily bad? The PKGBUILD also clones from git, so this should successfully report the state of the wesnoth source code repository itself...

What do you mean by "the Git revision number of the PKGBUILD" -- especially consider that the PKGBUILD is tracked in svn and should therefore if anything display an svn revision.
