When you install Arch using the FTP installation you have to configure ethX. But when you edit the /etc/rc.conf file or /etc/resolv.conf you must reconfigure it, because it doesn't keep the installation parameters.

It will be nice if the installer update automatically those files according to the installation parameters.

HM, I have installed with the FTP ISO, I have had not this problem.

Why would we do this in the first place? I usually use dhcp for rapid installation/configuration, then afterwards switch it to a static/the right configuration.

At least now you are aware of where and how to configure your network, if we let this be configured automagically you have no idea on what's going on.

there were always problems for me with the FTP installer. for example, the proxy settings didn't apply to everything, so it wasn't possible to do FTP install with proxy.


It would be more natural to not let the installer handle networking configuration. Better let the user configure the system with the config files (inside the installer) and let the installer try "network restart" for him.

There is proxy support in pacman 3.0, it may be included in 0.8 final.

new setup will support proxy support and also taking those settings to config files.
