pacman3 refused to do anything with the -S option as non-root user, where pacman2 worked fine:

[jan@server gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg]$ checkpkg
looking for inter-conflicts... done.
error: failed to commit transaction (insufficient privileges)

Couldn't download previous package.

Offended line in checkpkg:
pacman3 -Spd --noconfirm $pkgname

pacman 2.x used to allow pacman -Spd to print the URL of the package it would download as normal user.

This may be fixed in CVS right now - no opportunity to test ATM.

The main issue is that -Sp requests "read-only" permissions from libalpm, yet the "transaction commit" expects "read-write" permissions, so it fails.

I will test later on

Fixed in CVS, I think
