Reason for closing: Won't implement
Additional comments about closing: after testing it a bit I must say that the other plugins are way more capable and vlc is not in their league yet. So until this isn't changed I see no need in dealing with the whole hassle.

PKGBUILD
do not build vlc with the plugin, unless you can make it an separeted package. you do not want 3 different plugins for video with mozilla.
One more thing to be added is that you will need to copy over /var/abs/extra/multimedia/vlc/vlc.install and /var/abs/extra/multimedia/vlc/vlc.desktop to the directory containing the PKGBUILD before running makepkg. If you have seamonkey installed, you will also have to uninstall it before building the vlc-0.8.6 package. You can reinstall it afterwards.
I edited the PKGBUILD and installed 0.8.6a, which is a bit more secure than 0.8.6, but it did not resolve the sound and crash problems. It seems to be a common issue according to the folks on videolan.org.
So, I will continue with uninstalling and reinstalling mplayer-plugin when I need either vlc or mplayer. Anyway, it is better than nothing.

I bails for me on the libfaad plugin
Making package: faad2 2.5-1 (Fri Jan 19 22:10:41 CET 2007)

This is pretty annoying, but I am but a amateur and stobborn as hell - hehe. Maybe i need some faac, too - dunno really.
Also tried to install vlc-0.8.6a with the faad2-cvs from AUR, but with that version - no sound and frequent crashes.
