DetailsUpgrade from linux-firmware 20180825.fea76a0-1 -> 20181018.d877533-1 bumped the package size by almost 115MB. This is primarily due to the inclusion of new firmware for Netronome SmartNICs (somewhat overkill network cards) - these primarily target enterprise deployments and are unlikely to be used on Arch. Extracting Netronome firmware files into a separate package would drop the default installation size by about 100MB. Similar treatment could be given to Marvell/Cavium's LiquidIO (also enterprise SmartNICs, 25MB) and QLogic Ethernet (server Ethernet adapters, 16MB - these can be occasionally found in tower servers used by small businesses and such).
