Details

Description: Unsorted output from sort
Additional info:
* package version(s) coreutils 8.30
* config and/or log files etc. None


Steps to reproduce:
1) create foo.txt (3 ASCII-char lines):

hello.pdf
hello-losn.pdf
hello-svar.pdf

2) sort foo.txt produces ('-', 0x2D should be sorted throughout < '.'=0x2E, but IS NOT!)

hello-losn.pdf
hello.pdf
hello-svar.pdf

If you want to sort based on the C locale collation, you need to actually use LC_COLLATE=C, rather than using your most-likely UTF-8 locale to derive a collation locale in which the dot and the dash have the same equivalence class, and thus are equally weighted.
