Details

Description:
since may~june 2018 mplayer archlinux package fails to display audio and video when I want to use my DVB-T TV tuner card,

I see no error message, no info in dmesg related to mplayer or DVB-T, all seems ok except that mplayer doesn't display a window for the video, and I hear no sound,

the only output in the console :

$ mplayer dvb://
MPlayer SVN-r38101 (C) 2000-2018 MPlayer Team
225 audio & 464 video codecs

Playing dvb://.
dvb_tune Freq: 482000000
TS file format detected.
VIDEO MPEG2(pid=120) AUDIO A52(pid=130) NO SUBS (yet)! PROGRAM N. 0

smplayer (which uses mplayer as backend) has the same problem, no video and no sound,

before may~june 2018 mplayer and smplayer worked without problems,

if I use another dvb player (like VLC and kaffeine) there is no problems, all is ok,

so I suspect a problem in mplayer package, I tried to create a bugreport in mplayer website but nobody has answered, so I don't know if it's an upstream bug or an archlinux bug (for example a missing dependency for mplayer, or a bad compilation)

Additional info:
* package version(s) mplayer 38101-2
* config and/or log files etc.

Steps to reproduce:
- you must have a DVB-T device (DVB-T USB device or a DVB-T pci/pci-e card)
- install mplayer 38101-2
- configure the TV channels (a configuration file for mplayer)
- then type "mplayer dvb://
- you will see no video and there will be no sound

The timeframe you're talking about is around when ffmpeg was updated to version 4. Probably related. Does mpv work?

I tried mpv, it works (after putting a channels.conf file in ~/.config/mpv), I can see video and audio,

so ffmpeg seems to work with mpv for DVB-T, but mplayer seems to fail when I want to use my DVB-T tuner card

mpv is MUCH more active than mplayer, the latter probably hasn't been updated for any changes ffmpeg made.
