According to https://www.musicpd.org/ 0.20.21 is the latest version.

Since mpd depends on ffmpeg which itself depends on opus, the latter is pulled in as an indirect dependency. You can confirm that mpd is indeed built against opus by running:

readelf -d /usr/bin/mpd | grep opus

So I do not see anything to improve on that front. Which leads me to suspect your replaygain/r128 tags problem is unrelated to opus. Cheers.
