Can you give some more details:

What server are you connecting to?
Does it still crash if you create a new connection to the same server? (I think this could be some statements on in your SQL editor tabs.)

Hmm yes, recreating the database works. moving ~/.mysql/workbench/sql_workspaces allowed me to connect once i restarted workbench.
