Is it supposed to? This sounds like it simply isn't ready to me.

It works in Ubuntu 18, but there Qt is 5.9.

Wait, this works with QT_QPA_PLATFORM=wayland on a *wayland compositor* on Ubuntu?

Doesn't Gnome's Mutter support Wayland if I log in to Gnome on Wayland?

Well, for some other reasons I've reinstalled the system, and now TS actually launches with Wayland and works, but looks ugly as hell. The problem is I have no idea what exactly had changed. Maybe, someone will encounter the same bug.

Alright, I'm closing this bug for now. Reopen if you have some precise info that points to a packaging problem.
