reasons: KDE developers also prefer gstreamer engine in amarok and kaffeine, and they plan to make it the default MM framework in future KDE-s (maybe in 4?) and i have also some issues with xine engines both in amarok and kaffeine. Amarok supports this engine by default so maybe you could add a package like this (at least in AUR)

Thanks: n0gabor

gstreamer support was dropped in amarok >1.4.0 and i don't know about any fix of this problem... also in the wiki, the gst engine is not yet listened officially:

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Requirements#Multimedia_Backends

if you know more, please point me to this information... in the meanwhile, you can always try to take the amarok-engine-xine PKGBUILD
http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/multimedia/amarok-engine-xine/?cvsroot=Extra&only_with_tag=CURRENT
as a template and update the gstreamer one:
http://cvs.archlinux.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/multimedia/amarok-engine-gst/?cvsroot=Extra&only_with_tag=CURRENT
to build the amarok-engine-gst

if this is successfull and you can use it, i will immediately release this pkg

current amarok SVN contains some support for gstreamer 0.10, but it's commented from the configure file, so I guess there's no support for GStreamer at this moment.
Keep in mind, if you would be able to get GStreamer to work with Amarok, that it has to be GStreamer 0.10. The 0.8 version is deprecated and should be avoided like the plague, as we want to get rid of it in the near future.

do you know by any chance if the gst 0.10 support in SVN will be tagged for next release? i'm somewhat confused with the new amarok wiki website and looking for this kind of news.

anyway... thany jan for confirmation on matters.

The only things I've seen in amarok SVN are:
- GStreamer-0.10 engine now supports Audio CDs (1.4.0)
- GStreamer-0.10 engine was disabled for this release (not yet stable). (1.4.0)

After those messages, I haven't seen anything in the changelogs. This means that it's not likely that the next 1.4 version will come with GStreamer 0.10 support.

ok, thanx.

this is the news i also have.

1.3.x supports gst 0.8. 1.4.x does not 0.10 and there only exists patched and tinkered solutions on mailinglists... so probably gst 0.10 support will come back maybe in 1.5.x.
