Details

Description:
GRUB cannot be installed on a XFS filesystem with sparse inodes. Since xfsprogs-4.16 sparse inodes are enabled by default.

Additional info:
grub 2:2.02-5
xfsprogs 4.16.1-1

Steps to reproduce:
# mkfs.xfs -f /dev/loop0p2
# mount /dev/loop0p2 /mnt
# grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/loop0
Installing for i386-pc platform.
grub-install: error: unknown filesystem.
