Otherwise, xmag fails with a message stating it's unable to load any usable ISO8859.

But since this could be a problem for other xorg utilities maybe the dependence should be made mandatory for xorg in general.

The problem is not a new one:

Are you really using an ISO8859 locale? I didn't think anyone did that anymore.

My locale is en_US.UTF-8.

This is only valid for legacy applications. xorg-server itself dropped the dependency on the misc fonts, so a modern desktop will not have them installed.

I don't want to re-add them to xorg-server.
