Without the miners some things looks broken in latest gnome
[1]:
1. The file starring feature doesn't work at all. 2. The configure icon in the search settings screen is disabled (in hindsight it's obvious why, but the first impression is fishy). I think I guess why tracker-miners is not a dependency and that you would have even removed tracker as a dependency of nautilus if that were possible. There is a trade-off here between two unpleasant surprises: tracker becoming a resource hog vs a desktop not working as announced. I argue for the first since it's always possible to unindex directories from the settings dialog in an easy manner, while it's not easy to figure out why nothing is being indexed when tracker is indeed running (nevertheless, I'm going to create a wiki entry explaining the above).
