GNOME Documents includes the program GNOME Books. Without gnome-epud-thumbnailer, Books shows a stock icon for every book. With gnome-epub-thumnailer installed it properly generates and displays thumbnails. The same behaviour is also in Nautilus.

There is a PKGBUILD in the AUR.

Probably other thumbnailers like the one included in evince also works.
Not adding this one: the last release is 3 years ago and the git repository wasn't migrated to gitlab: dead upstream. Github mirror also doesn't show any activity.

Unfortunately, the one included in Evince does not work for this purpose. The repository was migrated to GitLab, at https://gitlab.gnome.org/Archive/gnome-epub-thumbnailer.

Regarding activity, why does that matter? The library was created for a specific purpose, which is thumbnailing epubs. It still does the job, so there would be little
work that needs to be done.

Software in /Archive/ is no longer maintained software. When it breaks, nobody will fix it. I don't want to introduce "new" software in the repositories that doesn't get any upstream maintenance.
We already have enough bitrotten software in our repositories that require 10+ patches to get it even compiled, let's not introduce more.

Could you reconsider this now that gnome-epub-thumbnailer has been moved from Archive? That should be a good sign to the state of its maintainership.
