Emacs 26.1 has a bug that can crash Emacs when it tries to display certain unicode characters:

https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=30874
https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=30045
https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=31547
https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=31758

which is fixed by these three commits on emacs-26:

* acaebed014 - (HEAD -> emacs-26) ; * src/ftfont.c (ftfont_spec_pattern): Fix whitespace. <Eli Zaretskii>
* 97d61f878e - Port FC_COLOR change to older fontconfig <Paul Eggert>
* f21fa142ac - Ignore color fonts when using Xft <Robert Pluim>

Is it possible to backport those? Right now it's possible to crash Emacs for me by installing emacs from [extra] and trying to display CROSS MARK (C-x 8 RET CROSS MARK RET).
