Description correction:
nm-applet core dump on connect; ...

Connection stays active.

Not only in Xfce, but in `stalonetray`.

More ways to reproduce:

1. Left click the icon to show the network list; if nm-applet do not crash at this point, you can left click again to hide the menu, and:
a) Left click again. It crash.
b) Right click. It crash.

$ strace -o strace.log nm-applet
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Left click on icon.
Select wifi id from menu.
Crash.
nm-applet icon disappears.
Connection stays active.

I also have this issue on XFCE. Interacting with the right click menu does not cause it to crash. Only left clicking it twice to show and hide the menu causes a crash for me.

I've downgraded to 1.8.11dev+12+ga37483c1-1 in the meantime which fixes the problem for me.

Same issue on i3
Comment by Doug (neo-alquimista) - Tuesday, 29 May 2018, 14:55 GMT
Unlike the others, mine crashed without having to click it. After resuming from suspend or during normal operations.

Crash is related to listing wifi-networks. If wifi is disabled nm-applet will not crash.

Same here, crashes either while listing networks or even after a while running. Last trace:

XFCE, network-manager-applet-1.8.12-1,
- segfault after clicking on the Wifi SSID
- segfault after right clicking on the applet

Trace is the same as Alex Ellwein (ElVino).
Comment by Jan Alexander Steffens (heftig) - Tuesday, 29 May 2018, 20:09 GMT
Please try 1.8.12-2.
Comment by Alex Ellwein (ElVino) - Tuesday, 29 May 2018, 21:25 GMT
I can confirm 1.8.12-2 works for me and doesn't bail out anymore.
