Description:
Printing to a samba printer with cups fails, the cups printer shows the message "Filter failed." This is an upstream bug, the output in my /var/log/cups/error_log is identical to what's shown here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13417
Supposedly this is fixed in samba-4.8.2. As a workaround, downgrade samba, smbclient, and libwbclient to 4.7.6.

Additional info:
* samba-4.8.1

Steps to reproduce:
Print to samba printer with cups

Expected result:
Print success

Actual result:

The fix for 4.8.0 / 4.8.1 was confirmed to work here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1785886#p1785886
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=236919 where it was previously reported but there was no follow up.
