Hi Allan and fellow developers, My name is Svito, I'm also (somewhat recent) maintainer on the wiki, though I've been using Arch Linux since 2012 and adopted its principles ever since.

Some translators decided it would be fun to translate [Y/n] questions to Ukrainian, just so everything is in native language.
They did so using Cyrillic alphabet. Unless you are using [unsupported stuff] or not use Ukrainian (why translate it then?), you would need to type pacman -S package with Latin layout, but then you are presented with questions that are Cyrillic letters. Then after transaction is complete you are back again in your shell, where you would use Latin to type other commands. This means you need to switch keyboard layout each time you are presented with [Y/n] question by pacman and then switch back again to Latin.

This is extremely annoying, distracting and uncalled for (even when you get used to it after few months).

To add to the confusion Yes=Так are No=Ні when translated, which means Ukrainian "yes" answer is same key as US "no" answer and same goes for Ukrainian "no" being same key as US "yes".

I left a comment https://www.transifex.com/toofishes/archlinux-pacman/translate/#uk/pacman-pot/2162 and added following suggestions to other affected lines, that I consider reasonable:

- Use Ukrainian (translated) answers, but using Latin alphabet with common technique called transliteration to Latin: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transliteration

This would mean answers are still in Ukrainian, but possible to type without changing layout back-and-forth:

Yes=Tak No=Ni, which also has a benefit of No being same letter and Yes being one physical key to the left of US layout

Other solution is to not translate [T/n] question/answers at all. Either one would be fine with me.

- Standard US layout (Qwerty)
- Standard Ukrainian layout (Qwerty)
- LANG=uk_UA.UTF-8
- TTY or VTE

I can maintain my own patch for as long as this a problem, but sincerely hope not to.
