I see the same issue for version 17:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-11 of the blender package.

Edit: I see that that the current package version is @ 17:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-13.

I get the same error except for libavformat.so.58 instead of libopenvdb.so.5.0:

blender: error while loading shared libraries: libavformat.so.58: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Seen for the first time just now, so probably the same problem. Version 17:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-13.

Downgraded to 17:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-11, got the libopenvdb.so.5.0 failure:

$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/blender-17\:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-11-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
...
$ blender
blender: error while loading shared libraries: libopenvdb.so.5.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Same with 17:2.79.b-8 and -7 and -5.

Downgraded to 17:2.79-10, it now fails on libOpenImageIO.so.1.7.

Realizing that pacman doesn't downgrade dependency versions when it downgrades a package with -U, I now installed blender-17:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-11 and openvdb-5.0.0-1:

$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/openvdb-5.0.0-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
...
$ sudo pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/blender-17\:2.79.b.git2.0385b33f-11-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
...

... and now blender runs for me.

So only the latest version (-13) is broken, in that it requires libavformat.so.58 at runtime while the current version of the ffmpeg package provides only libavformat.so.57.
