In freetype2-2.9.1-1 the file /usr/bin/freetype-config is missing. Since freetype 2.9.1 freetype-config needs to be enabled with the configure option --enable-freetype-config (see This script is at least required to build php56 (

Currently I'm using a self-built version of freetype2. It would be nice if the script is added again to the official freetype2 package or provided in a separate package.

I'm trying to build php71 which requires freetype-config - will also have to build my own version. Please correct this.

How common is this abominably sucky software trend of using *-config when pkg-config files exist???

Yeah, patching uses of freetype-config to run pkg-config instead should be pretty trivial.
