Recently (after update to GNOME 3.28), cheese fails to recognise webcams (there are 2 instances for me - laptop and desktop). Running from terminal, I get:

If I use guvcview webcams are recognised and I can see video.

Additional info:
* package version: 3.28.0-1

Steps to reproduce:

I am having the same issue. Laptop built-in webcam works out of the box with firefox and guvcview, not cheese.

I've noticed that cheese works as expected (detects and uses camera) with launched with sudo from a terminal.

I cannot reproduce the issue. Is it still valid for you?
