Details
When you run the 'nvidia-settings' program and change the
options it saves the file in your home directory under the
file name .nvidia-settings-rc. Then, each time you login to
your desktop session that file should be read and the
settings reapplied. This can be done automatically, or via
the command 'nvidia-settings --load-config-only'. I noticed
that using the nvidia-beta 1.0.9626-1 package in unstable
that the .nvidia-settings-rc configurations were not being
applied when the desktop session began. So I ran the proper
command from a terminal in order to trace the issue and
found this:
$ nvidia-settings --load-config-only ERROR: Error parsing configuration file '~/.nvidia-settings-rc' on line 10: line length exceeds maximum length of 256. I have attached the .nvidia-settings-rc file so you can view the contents of line 10. It seems to be a long list of RcFileLocale data. When I parse that line down to only a few items then the 'nvidia-settings --load-config-only' command works as expected and the user specific settings are applied in the desktop session. I'm not sure where the info in line 10 is being pulled from but it apparently is too extensive for the established parameters of the application. |

Have you tried the nvidia 9629 package from testing?

No, I was not aware of the higher version in testing. I will
update to that promptly.

The 9629 package does not exhibit the same problem. Advise bug be
closed. However, I do need to open a new bug on the nvidia-utils
package in testing for not automatically applying the user prefs
upon each desktop login. The command to do so has to be run
manually.
