I just upgraded my mail server box today in which OpenSMTPD was upgraded with the latest upgrade. After that it wont start.

# systemctl status smtpd
● smtpd.service - OpenSMTPD
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/smtpd.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Wed 2018-03-28 22:39:32 CEST; 4s ago
Process: 4070 ExecStart=/usr/bin/smtpd (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS)
Main PID: 4071 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Mar 28 22:39:32 foo systemd[1]: Starting OpenSMTPD...
Mar 28 22:39:32 foo systemd[1]: Started OpenSMTPD.
Mar 28 22:39:32 foo systemd[1]: smtpd.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
Mar 28 22:39:32 foo systemd[1]: smtpd.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

This is opensmtpd 6.0.3p1-1

Trying to start in debugging mode:

# /usr/bin/smtpd -v -d

Gives..

passwd[4139]: warn: table-api: bad API version
passwd[4139]: fatal: table-api: terminating

I am running with the opensmtpd-table-passwd AUR package because "extra" still isn't in the main repo and OpenSMTPD needs to be able to read tables.

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/opensmtpd-table-passwd/

I don't know what the API issue is, but this pretty much makes OpenSMTPD useless on Arch unless you only need it for local delivery.
