According to systemd's tmpfiles.d(5), system services should create a /var/run/<service> directory. I think opendkim should comply to this manner and use the default files' locations in: /var/run/opendkim/{socket,pid}

This is better explained here:

What tries to create that socket and .pid file there?

Well it depends on your configuration. The point is that if one uses `/var/run/opendkim/pid` and `/var/run/opendkim/socket` for example, he will have to create the directory `/var/run/opendkim/` every boot.

Well I'm not sure if this task should be classified as an issue or bug I just think that adding to the source file `opendkim.tempfiles` (https://git.archlinux.org/svntogit/community.git/tree/trunk/opendkim.tmpfiles?h=packages/opendkim) the line:

d /var/run/opendkim 0700 opendkim mail - -
