Since vlc 3 is ported to ffmpeg 3, this compatibility package is no longer needed.

Please remove ffmpeg2.8 from the official repositories.

IT was removed, but we readded because it was massive PITA.
It will be there for 1-2 month, it created a pain because of strict soname dependencies giving no sane upgrade flow. This is duo to lack of basic functionallity in pacman itself. After that period we will remove it.

I feel like a better solution is to use less versioned deps in favor of assuming the user does not do partial upgrades...

soname deps are great, they protect from half synced mirrors, which can theoretically happen any time during a larger move. dropping them it not the solution to a lacking feature
