When I lock my screen with gnome-screensaver, I can't unlock it. Under password box appears "Authentication failed". To fix this I've copied pam configuration file from xscreensaver package to /etc/pam.d directory, and renamed it to gnome-screensaver. Now it works fine.

Additional comments about closing:  in -2 seems upstream they broke the makefiles. install gnome-screensaver in /etc/pam.d on default.

Hmm... gnome-screensaver package has /opt/gnome/etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver file :-/

Yes it has, but it doesn't work properly in my machine. When configuration file is placed in /etc/pam.d directory then problem disappears.
PS. Sorry about writing report in wrong category. It is my first bug report :)

Works for me. :-/
Do yuo have some other details? Maybe you have changed some config options/files?

How do you start Gnome? Maybe /etc/profile.d/gnome.sh is not sourced?

which version ?
Comment by Maciej Libuda (Mefju) - Tuesday, 14 November 2006, 13:11 GMT
I'm using 2.16.1 version, which imho is the last one. I'm starting Gnome via GDM. I have checked /etc/profile.d/gnome.sh and all variables defined there are set.

It works for me. Same Gnome version, starting from gdm. GDM is starting from rc.conf. :-/

I have removed package, then clean all their gconf entries, reverted /etc/pam.d to default, and installed gnome-screensaver again. It didn't work, even when I started it from newly created user account. I've found that gnome-screensaver starts password dialog as another process from /opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-screensaver-dialog. I started it from console:

[maciek@arch pam.d]$ /opt/gnome/libexec/gnome-screensaver-dialog --verbose

(process:5489): gnome-screensaver-WARNING **: /etc/pam.d/gnome-screensaver does not exist.
Authentication via PAM is unlikely to work.

Maybe path to pam configuration is hardcoded? What do you think?

I don't know...
I had Gnome 2.14.3, then upgraded to 2.16.1 and in both versions I had working gnome-screensaver and was able to add anything to autorun. :-/
Something is different between our systems. My system has almost all settings as default.
