Description:

I recently picked up a Nexstar DX optical drive enclosure and an LG Bluray drive to replace an old Samsung DVD drive I had hooked up to my laptop with a USB->PATA adapter cable.

I was able to read a single disc with the drive, and several days later (next time I went to read a disc), all drive access fail and the enclosure's "activity" light just sits there blinking. Any attempt to read from the disc hangs. Actually as soon as I put a disc in (and udisks tries to read the disc info) it hangs with the blinky activity light on the enclosure (the actual drive indicator is not blinking).

At first I thought it might be a new kernel issue (since it did work once) but I downgraded multiple times (currently back to 4.14.12-1 vs current 4.15.1-1) with no change. I also tried manually setting the quirks on drive based on posts elsewhere using "options usb-storage quirks=174c:55aa:u" but that didn't change anything. I believe that only effects UAS, but I am connecting with USB2. I have also tried swapping the optical drive, though the new drive shows the same behavior. I have no idea why I was able to read a disc a week ago, but not now, no matter what I've tried.

Additional info:
* linux 4.14.12-1
* udisks 2.7.5-1
* systemd 237.0-2

I've attached lsusb -v and dmesg outputs. If there is anything else I can provide, please let me know. Also of note that the normal "quirks" value for this device is normally '400000' but I was trying the options entry above with this recent boot.

Steps to reproduce:
- Connect Nexstart DX enclosure with LG WH16NS40 Bluray drive installed to a USB-2 port
- Attempt to access the drive in any way.

I cannot reproduce the issue. Is it still valid for you?

I haven't tried it again since I reported the issue as this bug didn't gain any traction in the meantime and I had exhausted all the options I could think of. I will attempt to test it this week/weekend and reply back if it is resolved with a current install.
