Detailslinux-lts was moved from version 4.9 to 4.14. Since version 4.14, the kernel is unusable for me and probably many others which still use old Intel graphics. The upstream bug report can be found at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=104439. Switching to SNA solves the problem described in that bug report but leads to frequent crashes.
Now I have the choice between two buggy kernels (the problem still exists in version 4.15). The only "solution" besides buying new hardware or changing the distribution is to keep linux-lts at version 4.9, thereby using a kernel which is no longer updated and probably contains security holes. So could you please keep linux-lts at version 4.9 (or even at version 4.4), at least until the current intel kernel driver is in a stable state again or support ends? |
This task depends upon
There are other Arch packages mainly systemd that often forces to move to newer kernel versions. Also libdrm requires recent kernel drm versions. With Intel grpahics you can use modesetting driver and shouldn't be affected by all the late intel driver issues.
