gdmflexiserver is (now?) in /opt/gnome/bin/ rather than /opt/gnome/sbin. I wonder if that's related to the fact that I can't change GDM's theme by using it's GUI configuration tool.

I have this too.

I don't understand what do you mean saying "I can't change GDM's theme by using it's GUI configuration tool". :-/

Do you want to change GTK+ theme for GDM? AFAIK it's not possible with Gnome's config tool for GDM.
You can select only type of theme (simple, with image, "fullscreen") and change "fullscreen" theme. This works for me with Gnome 2.14.3 and 2.16.1 even with this gdmflexiserver error message when stopping gdm.

Selecting GTK+ theme from GDM's menu doesn't work for me. But you can change it in /opt/gnome/etc/gdm/custom.conf by adding GtkTheme=Clearlooks (for example) in [gui] section.

I meant, it doesn't save it.

Here is a fix for gdm-stop. Please test it.

Thanks for the patch and info, I'll try it as soon as I find some time.
Other than the fact that the GTK theme is not saved (perhaps it should be?) I had tried one of the "heavier" themes from Gnome's config tool for GDM and it looked broken. I assumed it was related to the gdmflexiserver error but I didn't investigate further.

you aren't meant to change the gtk theme as a user....

The patch solved the path error described above but this wasn't the cause of my problem after all. Setting the GTK theme in custom.conf worked.

Thanks for your help. After correcting the path error I think you may close this bug.
