Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  Use packages in the future, then you won't have problems like these.

Addtionally, no icons are shown on the prefs or gnome-panel applet listing or the menus. Which is weird, because the app has an icon. So, it must be a menu somewhere.

[jan@server ~]$ ldd /opt/gnome/bin/nm-applet | grep dbus
libdbus-glib-1.so.2 => /usr/lib/libdbus-glib-1.so.2 (0xb776b000)
libdbus-1.so.3 => /usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3 (0xb7563000)

It looks like you have an older version of gnome-network-manager installed.

The missing icon problem is due to icon caches that aren't updated, many packages are affected by this, as the postinstall should force regeneration of the cachefile. gnome-network-manager 0.6.4-4 actually forces this regeneration, so upgrading to that version will fix your problems.

Sorry, but you are wrong because that's what I had installed.

pacman -Sf gnome-network-manager

[root@lc2430 eugenia]# nm-applet
nm-applet: error while loading shared libraries: libdbus-1.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

And restarting the PC or gnome or updating the icon cache does not show me any icon anywhere to load nm-applet.

ok, i figured it out, i had installed nm-applet a year ago on /usr/bin instead. This thing is really starting to piss me off with arch linux... There must be a clear cut solution about where apps need to be installed, or move everything back to /usr.
