Details

When attempting an install from live medium and hence booting from it, the screen stays simply black after the ArchLinux selection prompt, but the system is fully booted. There is a very faint 'red-'ish outline of the prompt moved off to the left of the screen and a blue-ish tilde '~' about 1/4 left on the screen, otherwise the screen is black. Hitting enter will advance the tilde, meaning create a new line. Typing a command will take, like 'reboot', but what is typed is not visible on the screen.

Multiple reboots don't necessarily produce the same result, but more than often this is the screen I am presented with.
I am currently trying to install a few distros, and have not seen any screen issues with any of the others I tried (Alpine, Fedora, Gentoo) related to what is available on the screen.

This is a SUPERMICRO MBD-A1SAi-2750F-O Mini ITX Server Motherboard with Intel Atom C2750 FCBGA1283 with BMC integrated Aspeed AST2400 video, I am using the Supermicro IPMI view software for virtual KMS, but because of this behavior, I also ended up plugging an actual monitor in, but the result is the same.

I ended up setting 'nomodeset' kernel param, which at least for the next reboot gave me a gray prompt on black background, which is what I would expect.

There seems to be another bug filed like this: https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/54471?project=1

Sounds like the drivers for your vid card just suck. Not much we can do about that.
