Description:

tg:// protocol links does not work from Firefox, but do work with xdg-open.

Additional info:
* local/telegram-desktop 1.2.1-2

Steps to reproduce:

1. Install telegram-desktop
2. Try to open tg://resolve?domain=themes from Firefox
3. Firefox sais, that this link cannot be resolved.

But if I try to open it with xdg-open 'tg://resolve?domain=themes', link opens in Telegram.

This is a limitation of Firefox. You can report it as a feature request for the upstream Firefox developers.

On the other hand, you can configure Firefox yourself to open tg link in the appropriate application:

This works for me, telegram installs a desktop file with an x-scheme-handler/tg and Firefox prompts to open it in telegram.
