Details

Description:
When updating to package version 4.2.0-1 it creates an /usr/etc/profile.d directory with gawk.csh and gawk.sh inside, instead of placing the files in /etc/profile.d

And it does not install:
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
gawk: /usr/etc exists in filesystem

It does not fail to install. If you have a file called /usr/etc, you have problems.

On ArchLinux, /usr/etc is a symlink to /etc so it fails to install..

So it was and can't remember a post on archlinux.org telling users to remove links.

No, it wasn't. If it was, it would have been part of a package and removed automatically.
