Logging into Gnome Shell hangs after entering my credentials. It's the same when using wayland or xorg. I'm using GDM as the display manager and logging into mate works without a problem - I've installed it since I couldn't get into Gnome Shell. Steps to reproduce: 1. Login to Gnome 2. Downgrading to gnome-session 3.26.1-1 did not fix it .
Reason was a gnome shell extension.
try removing Your extensions temporarily to test login:
cd .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
mkdir tmp
mv * tmp
in my case it was "EasyScreenCast@iacopodeenosee.gmail.com"
