Description:
Logging into Gnome Shell hangs after entering my credentials. It's the same when using wayland or xorg. I'm using GDM as the display manager and logging into mate works without a problem - I've installed it since I couldn't get into Gnome Shell.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Login to Gnome
2. Wait

Actual results:
It hangs and the background is show on TTY2 or I'm redirected back to the login screen on TTY1

Expected results:
Login to continue and a normal gnome session to appear.

Does this happen every time?
Yes

Additional info:
* gnome-shell 3.26.2-1, gnome-session 3.26.1-2

Same Happened after updating to gnome-session 3.26.1-2 .
Downgrading to gnome-session 3.26.1-1 did not fix it .

I also had this problem since upgrading to gnome-shell 3.26.2-1
Reason was a gnome shell extension.

try removing Your extensions temporarily to test login:
cd .local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/
mkdir tmp
mv * tmp

in my case it was "EasyScreenCast@iacopodeenosee.gmail.com"

This actuly worked. I don't know why this didn't work when I created a new fresh user to test with? I didn't have the extension installed via pacman - it was installed via the web interface so only one user had it?
