Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  NetworkManager uses pppd with kernel PPPoE support, not rp-pppoe.

The rp-pppoe plugin that ships with ppp doesn't seem to depend on the rp-pppoe package.

If you install networkmanager and ppp, the pppoe connection will not work in network manager.

What exactly fails?

I can't connect to my pppoe connection without this package after update. I think it caused by changes in NetworkManager.

NetworkManager doesn't use rp-pppoe anymore:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=6fdfb03107138e96e641d12a7c4df5ecfacb5406

I grepped through the code, NetworkManager uses pppd with the rp-pppoe plugin that is included with ppp, there's no reference to the rp-pppoe package.
