Description:

Today's update updated the core/linux package from version 4.13.9-1 to version 4.13.12-1. With that version, after restarting my computer and logging into GNOME 3.26 on Wayland, I got periodic hangs meaning that every 2 seconds the screen freezes for a short fraction of a second. I downgraded to version 4.13.9-1 from the package cache, and now the hangs are gone again.

With the problematic version, I checked journalctl and dmesg but couldn't find an obvious problem...

Additional info:

Attached is the information of lshw if it might help. I don't use the Nvidia graphics card but just the Xeon E3-1200 v3/4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller without an explicitly installed driver (so just the stock modesetting driver).

I experienced this problem too; downgrading to 4.13.11-1 solved the issue.

I'm running Gnome 3.26.2 on the latest Xorg with the NVidia drivers.

I'm on a Ryzen 5 1600 and I'm using a GTX 1050 Ti, all drivers from the mainline kernel.

Have you tried 4.14 or 4.13.13 or bisecting between 4.13.12 and 4.13.11 to determine which commit caused the issue?

@loqs I'll try 4.14 or 4.13.13 as soon as they appear in Arch. Bisecting is a bit hard to do since this problem only happens on my computer at work, not on my laptop at home. And at work, I cannot spend too much time on this issue. :-(

Me too, just updated today and writing from the laptop. When the keyboard stroke matches the freeze (very often) it repeats the character making the syystem almost unusable,

4.14 is now in testing is that also affected? If so then can either pretzelface or labotsirc bisect between 4.13.12 and 4.13.11 to determine which commit caused the issue as it is not easy for tsdh.
Edit:
spelling now instead of not

I will try to do this as soon as I can and come back with the information

Dear loqs,
I have tested 4.14 and it is good, no problems perceived.

I started bisecting, and I got as far as compiling the very latest (4.15rc1) from git. It worked fine, albeit with Nouveau (I wasn't going to mess with nvidia drivers while bisecting the kernel, haha). If labotsirc says 4.14 is good, I'm happy.
