Running `pacman -Ss epub' doesn't turn up calibre, just libgepub.
The package description is currently "Ebook management application".
Perhaps some of the common formats can stated.
How about "Ebook librarian, format converter, and reader. Formats supported include EPUB, mobi, PDF, and HTML."
This task depends upon

I'm not really sure this is a good idea, searching for format-specific descriptions is rather unmanageable considering how many formats calibre supports.

To put this in perspective, `pacman -Ss 'docx|odt'` does not return libreoffice, which I think is a comparable case. I really feel people looking for ebook software shouldn't limit themselves to one keyword.

Also, HTML and PDF are unrepresentative of calibre's conversion engine and completely missing the point when considering calibre's GUI management functionality, and MOBI should be replaced by AZW3, so... yeah.

Anyway, descriptions are not the same thing as keyword discoverability, so maybe what we really need is a pacman feature to add the capability for keywords metadata. ;) The AUR has this, for example.

Yes, I'm not suggesting all its formats be stated, just main ones that might be searched for instead of "ebook".
Package evince, for example, has "Document viewer (PDF, Postscript, djvu, tiff, dvi, XPS, SyncTex support with gedit, comics books (cbr,cbz,cb7 and cbt))". I think that's too many esoteric ones, but it does mean if one's wondering what handles DjVu that it shows up with -Ss.
Many non-DRM books arrive as PDF, so I think that's of significant interest from the management and reading aspect.
Keywords would be great, but, much like improving man pages so `man -k'/apropos(1) finds things, I think the Description could be improved. Many things are "application". "management" is a bit woolly whereas "librarian" might give a better idea.

We have many other apps which could able to open epub files (e.g. atril). I think there is no reason to modify the description and put a long list of the supported file formats. Use our wiki instead:
