Details

Upgraded from linux (4.11.9-1 => 4.12.3-1).

Booted ok
Logged in ok
Plasma started ok
Logged into password manager (get password for wifi) ok
Started wifi Network ok
Started terminal ok
Started Dolphin ok

Start any other GUI app and the screen crashes (monochrome red with pixels). Can see mouse move in background but cannot start any further apps. Hard boot is the only way to repeat the above sequence.

Resized terminal and the screen crashes as above.

Conclusion:
I downgraded linux (4.12.9-1 => 4.11.3-1) and everything works as normal (and added 'IgnorePkg = linux' to pacman.conf).

Notes:
