Is this still an issue with 4.12?
The patch you referenced is not in 4.12 or 4.13 or queued for 4.14 https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/axboe/linux-block.git/log/?h=for-next
Could you find out what happened to it?

The thing is that the maintainer for bcache is absent now, as I understand it. By this reason many patches only in mailing list. So yes, this patch is still necessary for users who use bcache on Arch Linux.

Bcache patches now merged with next. So if I only one who use bcache for now, after 4.14 this ticket should be closed.
